Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport
The Goldring Center was built in 2014 at a cost of ~$60 million and will include a 2,000-seat FIBA/FIVB-standard basketball and volleyball arena. The complex also features a state-of-the-art Strength & Conditioning Center and an Olympic-sized weight room.
Inside, the multi-level gymnasium is designed in the form of a sports theater, with a glass facade overlooking Varsity Stadium, allowing natural light into the practice space. The center aims to serve not only elite university athletes but also provide an environment for research, rehabilitation, education, and service to the university and local community.
Programs & Activities
1. Drop-in Sports (Public)
- Activities such as basketball, volleyball, skating, soccer, Frisbee (Ultimate), etc. are offered as drop-in activities.
2. Varsity Blues Basketball
- The 2,000-seat arena hosts the Varsity Blues basketball and volleyball teams.
- Events such as the BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Tournament are also held at the complex.
3. Specialized Academies and Camps
- High Performance Academy for 14–17 year olds focuses on strength training, nutrition, and specialized games (5-day summer class).
- The UT Volleyball Academy offers courses such as Pass-Serve-Spike for 13–15 year olds and specialized defense courses for 14–16 year olds for a fee.
4. Track and Field Program
- UTTC High Performance Academy includes specialized running, jumping, and endurance training with multi-day sessions each week.

- Sports Courts and Competition Space: Three international standard (FIBA/FIVB) basketball/volleyball halls, including two practice courts and a main hall with a capacity of 2,000 spectators.
- Multi-level Strength & Conditioning Hall: Featuring distinct tiers of squat, bench, deadlift, compound exercise and aerobic equipment, with access reserved for university teams.
- Workout Studio and Fitness Class: Dedicated space for group exercise and cardio dance classes, which can also be used freely when classes are not in session.
- Sports Medicine and Research Clinic: Includes medical-therapeutic centers, imaging (MRI/X-Ray), sports science laboratories, sports psychology and specialized rehabilitation sessions.
- Locker Room, Physiotherapy and Coaching Offices: Separate facilities for teams, with physiotherapy, injection, taping rooms, coaches’ offices and related administrative rooms.
- Advanced lighting and ventilation system: compliant with television broadcast standards, variable lighting with daylight sensors, cooling and energy recovery system, Green Roof environmental panels, and LEED Silver sustainable design.
