Vancouver Masters Synchronized Swimming Club
Vancouver Masters Artistic Swimming (VMAS) is an artistic swimming club in Vancouver, Canada, that welcomes adults of all skill levels, genders, and athletic backgrounds. The club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for its members. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artistic swimmer, VMAS offers a variety of programs for everyone. The club’s programs include team, medley, trio, duet, mixed duet, and individual competitions at the regional, provincial, national, and international levels. In addition to competitive programs, beginner courses are also offered for those interested in learning the basics of artistic swimming. Practices are held at various pools, including the UBC Aquatic Centre and Britannia Pool. In October 2023, one of the club’s teams won first place in the freestyle team division at the US Open in Tampa, Arizona, with a Lady Gaga-themed routine.
Programs & Activities
1. The VMAS competitive program is designed for experienced swimmers and includes the following events:
- Team: A coordinated group performance.
- Combo: A combination of team and duet.
- Trio: A three-person performance.
- Duet: A two-person performance.
- Mixed Duet: A two-person performance with a different gender combination.
- Solo: An individual performance.
- These events are held at the regional, provincial, national and international levels. Competing teams include names like Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, Wednesday and Girl Power, all under the guidance of experienced coaches like Jordan Wuest, Elise and Christina Demiris.
2. The Learn-to-Synchro recreational program is designed for individuals with little or no experience in artistic swimming. The program includes instruction in the fundamentals of artistic swimming, swimming drills and learning a short routine to music at the end of the course. The program is held at the UBC Aquatic Centre and consists of eight sessions, with the first session being free.
